Its switch also sits on the light body, not on a tape pad at your thumb. If you are putting the ProTac HL 5-X on a rifle anyway
Plenty of people already own a 5-X and would rather use it than buy twice. That is fair for a truck gun or a range setup. Five steps to clamp a handheld light to a rail
- Measure the barrel yourself
Streamlight does not print a barrel diameter on its spec sheet. Retail listings give 1.25 inches, so buy for that and confirm with calipers before the ring goes anywhere near the rifle.
- Buy a ring, not a scout mount
One-inch scout mounts will not close on this body. A 1.25-inch or adjustable-diameter clamp on a Picatinny or M-LOK base is the route that actually works.
- Mount it low and far forward
Low keeps leverage off the clamp. Forward gets the 2.35-inch head clear of your optic, and stops the bezel shading your own muzzle.
- Rotate the light so the switch stays reachable
The body switch is your only activation. Turn the light in the ring until you can reach it without abandoning your grip completely.
- Re-torque after live fire
Fire a few rounds, then check the clamp again. A 522 g light on a third-party ring shifts under recoil far more readily than an integral mount does.
None of this gives you momentary activation. If you need to pulse the light from your firing grip, no clamp will fix that.
