This policy explains what EDC Deals collects when you visit this site, why, and what you can do about it. It covers edcdeals.com only.
Who we are
EDC Deals is operated by TaylorCo, LLC, based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA. For any privacy question or request, contact privacy@taylorco.net.
The short version
- We do not sell your personal information for money.
- We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not process payments. Purchases happen on the retailer’s site, under the retailer’s own policy.
- We do use analytics, session-recording and advertising tools that set cookies and collect usage data. Those are described in full below.
- We earn commission when you buy through links on this site. That never changes your price.
What we collect automatically
Like most websites, our server records technical information each time a page is requested: your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, the page you requested, the page that referred you, and the date and time. This is used for security, troubleshooting and aggregate traffic measurement.
Analytics — Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics (loaded through Google Tag Manager) to understand which pages are read, how visitors arrive, and which content is worth writing more of. It sets cookies and collects a pseudonymous identifier, along with pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device type and referral source. We have not enabled Google Signals or advertising features that link this to a Google account profile.
Google’s handling of this data is described in Google’s Privacy Policy. You can prevent Google Analytics collection entirely with Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
Session recording and heatmaps — Microsoft Clarity
This one deserves a plain explanation, because it collects more than a page counter does. We use Microsoft Clarity, which records how visitors interact with pages: mouse movement, clicks, scrolling, and the sequence of pages visited. These recordings are played back as anonymized sessions so we can see where a layout confuses people or where a page fails on a phone.
Clarity masks text input by default, so what you type into a form or search box is not captured. We do not use it to identify individuals, and we do not attempt to link recordings to a named person. Microsoft describes its handling of this data in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Advertising — Google AdSense
This site displays ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads, and — where permitted — to personalize those ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites.
- You can control ad personalization at Google My Ad Center.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies is described in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Third-party vendors may also serve ads on this site; you can opt out of some of these at optout.aboutads.info.
Affiliate link tracking
Many product links on this site are affiliate links. When you click one, the retailer or its affiliate network sets a cookie that lets it attribute a later purchase to this site so a commission can be paid. We receive reports of clicks and completed orders in aggregate — product, quantity and commission — not your name, address or payment details.
The programs we participate in include the Amazon Associates Program and CJ Affiliate. Each retailer handles your data under its own privacy policy once you land on its site, and we have no control over or access to that.
Comments
If you leave a comment, we store the name and email address you supply, your IP address and browser user-agent string, and the comment itself. This is standard WordPress behavior and is used for spam filtering and moderation. Comments and their metadata may be retained indefinitely so that follow-up replies remain readable in context. Your email address is never published.
If you have an avatar image associated with your email address at Gravatar, it may be displayed alongside your comment; see the Automattic privacy policy.
Contact form and email
If you contact us, we keep your message and contact details for as long as needed to deal with the matter and to keep a record of the correspondence. We do not add you to a mailing list on the strength of a support message.
Cookies
Cookies on this site fall into three groups:
- Necessary — page caching and basic site function. These cannot be switched off without breaking the site.
- Analytics and performance — Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, as described above.
- Advertising and affiliate attribution — Google AdSense and the affiliate networks listed above.
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies; the method differs by browser and is documented by its maker. Blocking advertising and affiliate cookies does not stop you using the site, and does not change any price you are shown.
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area
This site is written for a United States audience, but it is reachable worldwide and a small share of our visitors are in the UK and the EEA. Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies to you:
Our legal bases. We rely on legitimate interests for security logging and basic aggregate traffic measurement, and on consent for analytics, session recording and advertising cookies.
Consent controls. Visitors in these regions see a consent banner before analytics, session recording and advertising cookies are set, and can accept or refuse each category. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time from our opt-out preferences page. We also honor Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals. Independently of our banner, you can block or delete cookies in your browser, opt out of Microsoft Clarity by enabling your browser’s Do Not Track setting, and manage Google’s advertising cookies through Google My Ad Center. If you would prefer we delete data already collected about you, email privacy@taylorco.net and we will.
Record of your consent. When you make a choice on the consent banner we store a record of it so we can demonstrate that consent was given: a truncated IP address, the categories you accepted or refused, the region the choice was made in, the version of the policy in force, and the date and time. It is not linked to a name or an account. We keep these records only as long as they are useful as evidence of a valid consent choice, and you can ask us to delete yours at any time by emailing privacy@taylorco.net.
Your rights. You may request access to the personal data we hold about you, correction of it, deletion of it, restriction of or objection to its processing, and portability where applicable. You may withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Transfers. Our website hosting and the third-party services named above are operated from, or transfer data to, the United States. Those providers rely on their own transfer mechanisms, including the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
If you are in California or another US state with a privacy law
We do not sell personal information for money. However, the use of advertising cookies described above may be treated as “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and as “targeted advertising” under similar laws in other states.
Depending on your state, you may have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion or correction, to opt out of targeted advertising or the sale or sharing of personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. To exercise any of them, email privacy@taylorco.net. We will not charge you or degrade the site for asking.
This site honors the Global Privacy Control signal where our advertising partners support it.
Children
This site is intended for adults. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. Some of our content concerns firearms, ammunition and self-defense equipment and is written for adults who may lawfully own such items. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact privacy@taylorco.net and we will delete it.
How long we keep things
Where we can state a fixed period, we do. Where the period is set by a provider or by our host rather than by us, we state the criteria instead.
- Server and access logs — held by our hosting provider for operational and security purposes and rotated automatically. Our host does not publish a fixed retention period, so the criteria are these: log data is kept only as long as it is useful for diagnosing faults, investigating abuse and maintaining security, and is overwritten on the provider’s own rotation schedule. We do not extract, copy or separately archive these logs.
- Google Analytics — user-level and event-level data is retained for 14 months, which is the retention period configured on our Analytics property. We keep it for that period so that traffic can be compared year over year; it is not kept longer than needed for that purpose. Google’s own aggregated reporting is not governed by this setting.
- Microsoft Clarity — retention is fixed by Microsoft and cannot be changed by us. Session recordings are deleted after 30 days. Heatmap data, aggregated click metrics and any sessions we have labeled or favorited are deleted after 9 months. Once deleted, Microsoft states the data cannot be recovered.
- Advertising cookies — set and expired by Google and its advertising partners under their own schedules, not ours. See Google’s policy.
- Comments — a comment and its associated name, email address and IP are kept indefinitely so the discussion stays intact, unless you ask us to remove it. Email privacy@taylorco.net and we will delete it.
- Email correspondence — kept for 24 months from the last message in the thread, then deleted.
Links to other sites
This site links heavily to retailers, manufacturers and reference sources. Once you follow a link you are on someone else’s site, governed by their policy, not this one. We are not responsible for their content or their handling of your data.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we do not hold payment details, passwords or account records for visitors, which meaningfully limits what there is to lose.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, note it on the page. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
